Perched on a limestone bluff above the deep blue waters of the bay of Green Bay, Sherwood Point Lighthouse stands as a testament to both function and beauty. The late afternoon sun casts a golden glow on its red-roofed keeper’s house and white tower, while shadows stretch across the well-manicured grounds. The rugged shoreline below, where waves lap against ancient rock, contrasts with the orderly presence of the lighthouse—a meeting of natural forces and human ingenuity.

Built in 1883, Sherwood Point Light was the last manned lighthouse on the Great Lakes, remaining staffed until 1983. Its strategic location helped guide mariners through the often-turbulent waters leading into Sturgeon Bay, where countless ships once navigated dense fog and unpredictable storms. Unlike many other lighthouses in Door County, Sherwood Point is not open to the public year-round. Today, it serves as a private retreat for the U.S. Coast Guard, offering a quiet place for personnel to recharge. However, during the Door County Maritime Museum’s Lighthouse Festival, visitors are granted rare access to explore the historic grounds and step inside a piece of Great Lakes maritime history.

Beyond its service to sailors, Sherwood Point is wrapped in local lore. Some say the spirit of a former keeper lingers in the keeper’s quarters, adding to the lighthouse’s mystique. Whether admired for its history, its striking location, or the stories whispered among its walls, Sherwood Point remains one of Door County’s most captivating coastal landmarks.

All prints are of museum quality and printed in The USA. Canvas Prints are wrapped around a hardwood frame to prevent long-term wrapping and utilize a 0.75" thick wrap.
